Terms of Service
Effective September 3, 2026
Welcome to Etournal, a campaign companion and virtual tabletop for playing tabletop role-playing games. These terms are an agreement between you and Etournal LLC, a Texas limited liability company ("Etournal", "we"), that governs your use of the service. By creating an account or using Etournal, you agree to them, and to the Community Guidelines and Privacy Policy, which are part of these terms.
1. Your account
You need an account to use most of Etournal. Keep your password private and give us accurate information — you are responsible for what happens under your account. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account, and we ask for your date of birth at signup to check; if you are under 18, you need a parent or guardian's permission.
2. Your content
The worlds, campaigns, characters, maps, notes, and other material you create in Etournal belong to you. By putting them in Etournal you give us the limited license we need to store, back up, and display that content to you and to the people you share it with (for example, the players in your world). If you choose to publish something — a public game listing, a public profile — that license also covers showing it to the public for as long as you keep it published. We do not claim ownership of your creations and we do not use them for anything beyond running the service.
Content you share into a shared space (a world, a campaign, a session) is visible to the other members of that space, under the visibility rules the game master sets.
You are responsible for what you post. Only put content in Etournal that you own or have the right to use.
3. Acceptable use
Don't use Etournal to break the law, to harass or harm others, to infringe someone else's copyright, to attempt to breach or overload the service, or to send spam. In particular, do not upload published adventure modules, rulebooks, or paid supplements you did not write — even into a private campaign. The full rules are in the Community Guidelines. We may remove content or suspend accounts that violate them. Fictional violence and mature themes within your own game content are part of the hobby and are fine, provided they are lawful and confined to the players who chose to be at that table.
Public game listings are reviewed and may be edited, hidden, or removed at our discretion.
4. Copyright complaints
We respond to notices of claimed copyright infringement under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. How to send one, and how to respond if your content was removed, is on the Copyright & DMCA page. We terminate the accounts of repeat infringers.
5. Game rules content
The game rules content Etournal reproduces (rules text, monsters, spells, and similar) is used under open licenses. The full license texts and required attributions are published at Licenses & Attribution. Etournal is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any game publisher.
6. AI-assisted features
Some Etournal features can generate content with the help of AI (for example, drafting an adventure module). Generated content can be wrong, inconsistent, or unsuitable — review it before you rely on it at the table. You are responsible for how you use generated content in your games. Text you submit to these features is sent to the AI providers named in the Privacy Policy so they can produce the result.
7. Paid plans
Parts of Etournal may be offered as paid plans or paid add-ons. Prices, billing terms, and refund terms are shown at the point of purchase. Free features may change as the service evolves.
8. Ending the relationship
You can stop using Etournal at any time and may request deletion of your account by contacting us. We may suspend or close accounts that violate these terms or the Community Guidelines, at our discretion. We will make reasonable efforts to warn you first unless the violation is severe or the law requires otherwise. If the service ever shuts down, we will make reasonable efforts to give you notice and a way to export your content.
9. Disclaimers and limits
Etournal is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We work hard to keep it reliable, but we do not promise it will always be available, error-free, or that content will never be lost — keep your own copies of anything irreplaceable. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, and our total liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or fifty US dollars if you have paid us nothing.
10. Your responsibility for what you post
If someone brings a claim against Etournal because of content you posted or something you did on the service in breach of these terms or the law, you agree to cover the resulting costs, including reasonable legal fees. We will tell you about any such claim promptly.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that cannot be resolved between us will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Texas, and you agree to their jurisdiction. Nothing here takes away rights you have under the consumer-protection laws of the place you live.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service evolves. If a change is significant we will give notice in the app or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use Etournal after a change means you accept the updated terms.
